Chapter Nine

Tex adjusted his turban again. The damned thing was fixing to slide off his head. He'd gartered the flowing sleeves of the silk shirt with rubber bands so they didn't get in his way, but they cut off his circulation and his fingers were starting to tingle.

Or maybe they were tingling in anticipation of touching Daffy again. And he intended to.

He sure hoped Daffy hadn't changed her mind about coming in harem dress. He sure wouldn't have worn this get-up otherwise.

He mixed drinks and poured shots and served beers, but one eye stayed on the front door, waiting for the arrival of his harem girl.

She came in with Hannah and Winnie and a man Tex didn't know. Had she brought one of her dates?

The guy took the ladies' jackets and hung them by the door, and Tex felt his boxers tighten when he saw her in her costume. She wore a veil across her face, a diaphanous scrap of silk revealing only her clear, blue eyes. He didn't know where she'd gotten her idea, but she was dressed more like a belly dancer than a woman trapped in a harem. The costume top was a like a bra, and trimmed with coins that jingled as she walked. Her loose silk trousers were cuffed at the ankle, hiding, yet clinging to her legs.

Tex watched closely, feeling the uncomfortable burn of jealousy that she was with someone else. He only relaxed when he realized by their matching costumes--motorcycle leather pants and jackets--that the man was with Hannah. The man settled his arm around her and Tex relaxed some more. The way they looked at each other made it more than clear which woman was his. Especially when Hannah finagled him under a pumpkin and pulled him close for a kiss.

That was a really good idea.

"Hey, Scotty. Can you handle things for a few minutes?"

"Sure." Scotty waved his hook at him.

Tex wrapped his cape around him and strolled out onto the floor.

"Evening, ladies." Tex looked them over. "I must say, Miss Winnie, you're a vision in buckskin."

"Thank you, sir." Her amethyst eyes sparkled. "My mama's own design, from a deer my daddy killed on the day I was born."

Those eyes moved up and down his frame. Winnie had the most frank appraisal he'd ever experienced. "Oh, my, aren't you the handsome one," she said, batting her eyelashes. "The Sheik of Araby."

He grinned. "You like it?"

"Oh, I do." She shoved Livvy closer to him. "You two go together well, don't you?"

"It would seem so. She makes a great little belly dancer, doesn't she?" He caught Livvy's eye. "How do you like my get-up, Daffy?"

She looked him over. "Pretty swank, Sheik."

Hannah came up, dragging her man with her.

"Tex, I want you to meet my husband, Logan Kimbrough. Logan, this is Tex Braun."

The man held out his hand and Tex shook it.

"Are you the Logan of Logan's Harley Emporium?"

"The very same."

Logan had a firm handshake. Tex decided he liked him, especially since he was Hannah's husband and not competition for Daffy.
